The Japanese Fall Festival was held close to Addison this year. They should have devoted more space to it - it was SO CROWDED! I wanted to watch some dancers but too many standing people were gathered around the sitting area. It was also difficult to navigate through the crowds to get from one section to the other.
Took Shuichi dressed in kimono and he got quite a few finger points and smiles.
Left the festival after an hour and popped by a writing con to see a friend's new and first doll. Ended up having a mini-meet because another mutual friend was there with her doll.
Was sick with headache and bad gut on Monday so stayed home and was miserable.
Work is its usual hell.
I have been talked into teaching a one credit hour anime class in Spring; eight weeks, one night a week for two hours. I have called it "Art and Anime: a personal journey". I have to work on the curriculum, try to figure out ways to not sound like an idiot in front of students who are going to know more than me, find bunches of examples from my own meager collection, do a bunch of screenshots and build some powerpoints to hold the pics and try to turn a fluff class the boss is using to recruit students to the department into something the students may even learn something from - which is my criteria.
Trying to start getting stuff together for yaoicon. I have the hardbody suitcase for the dolls and am working on the various lists of stuff needing to take and tell the folks about.
Only three weeks until we leave for San Francisco.
I just had to download raw ep 25 of Host Club because I needed my fix. Only one ep to go and it is done - how depressing. I need to look into the manga now.
Anyway, I felt pretty good understanding one phrase out of thousands without any translation. Host Club uses a lot of English/katakana words so that's nice for an idiot like myself.
So, I am listening and watching. Tamaki's father makes an appearance and begins talking. My ears twitch and I stare harder and listen more intently. That voice... I know that voice! It sounds like my favorite seiyuu, who has the sexiest voice - so sexy he could read a phonebook to me and I would go ga-ga. So I decide to confirm it before announcing it to the world. I go to the credits and try to figure out which character it could be, then go to animenewsnetwork and try to hunt down the cast name.
Score! I was right!
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Tamaki's dad is played by the one and only Kazuhiko Inoue, who is also known as Kagetsuya (Earthian), Oriya (Yami no Matsuei), Kakashi (Naruto), Hatori (Fruits Basket) and Yuki Eiri (Gravitation).
Who cares if ep 25 had no subtitles - I heard that deep sultry liquid voice again!
Sunday is the Japanese Fall Festival and I go every year - and this year I need to go and do a report on it for this crappy thing we have to do for work, called Intercultural Competence. I call it Cultural Incompetence because it is a waste of time and money for all of us to be required to attend this 'sensitivity' training for the last three years. Anyway, I plan on taking Shuichi along, in one of his kimono, just for grins. I don't think I want to haul all four of the guys along and juggle them.
At least it won't be hot hot hot like it was last year. It is held outside and last year a small heat wave came through that weekend and it was something like almost 100 degrees with a 98% humidity and it is held on a parking lot where the heat from the asphalt reflects right back on all the humans. I got a touch of heat exhaustion and was forced to leave after only an hour. Constant fluid intake wasn't working. It was strange - we are all used to dealing with heat because of our ren faire training - but all that drinking wasn't cutting it last year.
The only reason why I am going to work today is because of timesheets and knowing the snake won't be in until the afternoon so they will not be turned in on-time if I don't go in and do it. I will leave after I get them sorted out.
I slept almost the entire weekend away and still feel like crap. This cold is really taking it out of me. Getting some doll stuff out wiped me out big time.
Sorry about not keeping up with everyone and everything...
Well, I have a cold - stuffy but runny nose, sneezing, coughing, etc. This is on top of the intestinal crap I got meds for on Tuesday.
Went back to the obgyn today to have a colposcopy done - the doc found something that could be suspect so he nipped it off to be sent for a biopsy. Right now, it feels a bit 'irritating' to sit in certain positions.
Next Wednesday is a rheumy checkup.
And then I don't wonder where all the money goes...
One of my mother's best friends (and a family friend to all of us) died last weekend. My mother has been too sick and too busy to do much grieving - she knows it will hit soon, though...
I got sick Friday afternoon during the con, thinking it was from my medication.
When it continued all weekend (yes, I was still attending the con, running to the restroom periodically, and riding the bouncing train to and from every day) and still suffering with it this Tuesday morning, I got worked in at the doc... who thinks it is probably food poisoning or some other crap (I thought it was another infection in the intestine) and I have antibiotics to take for 10 days - the same stuff I had to take last time that kept me from eating dairy during that time. Well, the doc said dairy (excluding eggs) helps make the illness worse. I started laughing when he told me that - I had been doubling my dairy intake all weekend, thinking it had to do with the arth meds! I didn't take them today because I still thought they may be the cause of the problem.
And the snake pulled bullshit today and I will need to go talk to the Dean about it...
So, I still feel like crap and will be going to bed soon.
Thanks: --> to Lia, my sensei, who has inspired me to draw again. I
wouldn't be doing this without your support, Domo Arigato!
--> to Talon, for sending me her fabulous fics, inspiring me with her writing to draw my first
illustration for a story and actually liking what I drew.
--> to Dasia, for her words of encouragement when drawing her original chara.
--> to Joules, a wonderful epic fic writer, for liking my art enough to want to post them with Talon's
and her own stories.
--> to Lutra, the other half of the epic team, for being so supportive.
--> to Jacque' & Becca Raddittzu, we met on eBay as bidder and sellers and now we are face-to-face
friends. You showed us the real DBZ with your fansubs. It's all your fault the house is full of
doujinshi! *LOL*
